To explore the concept of deception I considered ways in which
people perceive things as deceiving. I thought that this could be achieved by
something being hidden or not seen in the first glance is a way of conveying
that idea. I considered the structures of the knitwear and garments and decided to focus more on the little detailing and edges and trims.
The large ruffles in this garment have inspired me to
consider the way that the knitwear would move when it is being worn, the
structure of the knit could make it so things are being hidden and revealed
depending on the angle it was being viewed from. This also made it feel more
relevant to focus on edges and trims based on the placement on the body. If it were
a trim to a three quarter length sleeve the detailed areas of knitwear would be
in areas an d joints on the body that would experience the most movement.
The practice of the two coloured flaps worked well for the
concept of deception however I feel to push this idea to be more relevant to my
drawing I should experiment with breaking the rigid straight lines and blocks. This
is because the drawings are looser and are fluid like that movement of the
dancers. I also want to revise my yarn selection, as the lambs wool is slightly to heavy and flat. I feel that a yarn with a pearly quality would be more relevant for the collection because I see these fabrics fitting into a couture female fashion collection.

For the Bradford Textile Project I have decided to use a
fragment of my summer work that has been based on ‘Swan Lake’. This project has a lot of ideas and themes
but for this short brief I have decided that I will focus mainly on the idea of
optical illusions and deception based on the idea of Odile being deceivingly
similar looking to Odette, in the tale.
I have narrowed the visual research down to focusing on
movement of the ballerinas and patterns from slow shutter and out of focus
dance imagery. I looked at ‘PromoStyl’S/S 16’ for forecasting information. I
feel that the optical illusions will fit into context with next years style
particularly along side ‘concept 01
algebra art’.
